Local Loop Unbundling
Local loop unbundling (LLU) is the regulatory process of allowing third parties the use of connections from a telephone exchange to a customer's premises. The physical wire connection between a customer and the incumbent telephone company (who generally the owners) is known as a "local loop".
In the UK, LLU has been in place for several years, with the number of unbundled connections exceeding 2 million. In this market, BT is the incumbent, with operators such as Carphone Warehouse acting as their major competitors. Within BT itself, BT Retail is acting as an LLU operator, unbundling lines from BT Openreach. Asidua has been involved in many aspects of the LLU marketplace and has a deep understanding of the issues involved.
- through our relationship with BT Ireland, we have provided an ADI solution to allow BT to provide services based on LLU from Eircom: this solution supports an SOA, using many of the existing BT enterprise applications.
- as an ADI solution provider for Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited (FTEL), we have assisted FTEL in acting as a managed service provider for AOL, for whom they install and maintain all exchange equipment.
- as an already established partner of BT Retail, we assisted BT with their initial move into LLU with a system to handle the rollout of LLU services from BT Openreach.

Wholesale Voice Line Rental
Wholesale Line Rental is a service in which a third party takes control of all the connections made through a telephone line from the original access provider. In doing so the third party becomes a retailer of the voice service provided by the line and collects the subscription fee and usage charge from the end-customer.
In the UK, a good example of WLR is the TalkTalk services provided by Carphone Warehouse, who rent multiple phone lines from BT, for a reduced rate, and resell this services to their own customers under the TalkTalk brand. In Ireland, BT operate as a Telecommunications Service Provider (TSP) by renting lines from Eircom and selling these under the BT brand. Asidua has been involved in many of the above aspects of the WLR marketplace and has a deep understanding of the issues involved.
- through our relationship with BT Ireland, we have provided an ADI solution to allow BT to provide services based on WLR from Eircom: this solution supports an SOA, using many of the existing BT enterprise applications.
- as an already established partner of BT Retail, we assisted BT with their rollout of WLR services, by providing a range of services which allow BT Retail to operate within the environment where WLR services were provided by BT Openreach.
