Software firm in jobs expansion
by Robin Morton, Business Correspondent, Belfast Telegraph
Business Telegraph [Monday, March 12, 2007, page 3]: Belfast-based software firm Asidua has unveiled plans to increase its workforce from 100 to 150 and expand into larger premises. The company, which is located at Weaver's Court in the Sandy Row area, plans to take on the 50 new staff over the next nine months. The new premises are currently approaching completion within the Weaver's Court complex, and the recruitment drive is poised to begin.
Asidua has two divisions - business services which handles corporate and public sector clients, and device services, which targets network equipment manufacturers. Steve Brankin, the chief executive officer of Asidua, said they had been winning new business worldwide because of their increased capability. The privately owned company, which was established five years ago, says 80% of its business is exports to customers overseas. It has been ploughing back its profits into an R&D laboratory and the expansion into additional accommodation.
Bob McClean, the company's sales and marketing director, said: "We are dealing with companies in locations ranging from the Republic to Japan, China, Finland and Germany. "The main factor constraining our growth is staff. We are primarily a services company and skilled, experienced people are the lifeblood of the organisation."
Mr McClean said that if it could not find sufficient numbers of experienced staff, who have been working in the industry for a number of years, the company might be forced to open offices overseas to facilitate its growth. He said that four million digital lines in the UK made their connection through a code which the Belfast company had developed.
He added: "The technology and the people making the equipment have to be ahead of the curve so we can be leading edge - but we need experienced people to do that."
