Causeway Electronic Case Preparation goes live

21st June 2005

Belfast, Northern Ireland [June 21, 2005]: David Hanson MP, Minister of State for Northern Ireland, today officially declared Causeway live for Electronic Case Preparation. This system allows for the secure interchange of case files and information between a number of critical criminal justice organisations, including the police, prosecution service and forensic science laboratory.

Causeway will deal with some 80,000 cases per year, reduce the paper in circulation by 3.5 million pages per year, and reduce the time taken to retrieve information from weeks to seconds. All these efficiencies will free up valuable resources to more effectively carry out the business of managing criminal justice activity.

Stephen Leach, the Director of Criminal Justice paid tribute to the Causeway programme staff involved in project to date, and also took some time to single out a small number of contributing suppliers, notably including Asidua in his praise. He pointed out that in it's first week of operation, Causeway had already dealt with almost 1,000 live files.
