Asidua adds seal of approval to Ulster University Course

16th June 2005

Belfast, Northern Ireland [June 17, 2005]: Asidua has established an annual prize for the best overall software/telecoms related project in the final year of the BEng Electronics and Software Honours degree at the Jordanstown campus.

Announcing the south Belfast company’s support for the course, Dr Steve Brankin, Chief Executive of Asidua Ltd, said: “I am pleased to support the University of Ulster - and in particular the Electronics & Software degree course.” “One of Asidua’s unique service offerings is ‘embedded systems integration’, which requires a strong combination of software and hardware capability: this degree course provides suitable training for that kind of mixture. In addition to awarding this annual prize, we will be collaborating with the University with regard to final year undergraduate projects in engineering, as well as research projects with postgraduate and doctoral students.”

Dr Samuel Burgess, Data Communications Lecturer on the Electronics and Software course, said he was delighted by Asidua’s endorsement: “We have a very experienced team of researchers and lecturers here at Jordanstown who are directly involved in the Electronics and Software Degree - everyone is dedicated to providing students with excellent training for a career in engineering - and for us this award is a significant reflection of our efforts.”

“Strong University links with industry are vital for the future growth of our local economy. UU graduates employed by Asidua are working on projects for companies such as BT, Fujitsu, NI Civil Service, Deloitte, Openwave and Virtual Access. The company are also keen to expand into new areas of communications - and given the strong Jordanstown research expertise in this area I am looking forward to future collaborations with them.”
