For most people the very thought of jumping out of a plane at 13,000ft is terrifying enough, never mind a 7000ft freefall at a speed of 120miles p/hr! But that’s exactly what three Asidua employees did as they threw caution to the wind by completing a sponsored skydive to raise money for the NSPCC.
On June 19th Asidua employees Brent Kelly, Mellissa White and Paul Allan jumped out of a plane from a height of 13,000ft to raise some much needed funds for the Asidua’s Charity of the year, NSPCC.
The team completed their sky dive strapped to a qualified instructor at Movenis Airfield, Coleraine. Using a dual harness, they each exited the aircraft at 13,000ft attached to their instructor. They freefall at a speed of 120miles p/hr and then after 7000ft the instructor opened the canopy and steered them to the ground! Fellow Asidua employee Colin Campbell watched as the guys each free fell for approximately one mile before their parachute returned them safely to the ground.
Commenting on the day Paul said: “It took about 10 minutes for the plane to get to 13000 ft. This was the most nerve racking part, apart from actually sitting on the edge of the plane about to jump out. The freefall was exhilarating and strangely calm at the same time and once the parachute opened the feeling of relief was great. Between Mellissa, Brent and myself we raised £1000 for the NSPCC which I am quite proud of. The sun was shining and it was a brilliant day which made it even better. Doing the jump was a scary but amazing experience! I would definitely recommend it.”
Brent added “The Rush during the freefall was incredible but what I loved the most was the calm and tranquil descent. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I loved every second of it.”
The team have risen over £1000 in sponsorship money, thanks to a £150 donation from Asidua’s CSR Committee, generous donations made from Asidua employees and their friends and family. Mellissa ,speaking on behalf of the group commented, “We are so grateful to the CSR Committee and everyone at Asidua who has made donations and supported us in our challenge; it really is such a worthwhile cause” She also added “ I am so glad I took this challenge on and would jump at the chance to do it all over again!”
