Worldwide integration and embedded telecoms specialists Asidua, have today confirmed their ongoing support to local university students, with their extension of their successful £25,000 Scholarship Programme.
Launched in 2008 in co-operation with both Queens University and the University of Ulster, the Asidua Scholarship Scheme aims to attract fresh talent into the IT sector and to also support new IT and engineering students both professionally and financially during their academic studies.
Following the large volume of scholarship applications received last year, three local students - Sean Carlin (University of Ulster, Magee campus), Niall McAllister & Andrew Ruddell (Queen’s University Belfast) – were awarded the Asidua Scholarship Programme in 2008/2009. The successful scholars, who are now entering their second year of university, are now benefiting from the scholarship package which includes a yearly £1,000 bursary, a guaranteed industrial placement, an opportunity for additional part time work during the academic year and also a permanent position on graduation.
Commenting on the continued Scholarship Programme, Asidua’s Chief Operations Officer, Angela Canavan, said; “As the current University of Ulster Employer of the Year, Asidua are delighted to announce our continued support to local IT & engineering students, with the extension of our Scholarship Programme into 2009/2010.” Angela continued; “Following the high number of applicants last year, we were pleased to welcome Sean, Andrew, Niall and their families to Asidua, which we now look forward to expanding over the coming months.”
Local universities have welcomed the renewal of Asidua Scholarship Programme for 2009/2010. “The University of Ulster welcomes the ongoing scholarship opportunities from Asidua that support our computing and engineering students” says Professor Liam Maguire, Head of School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, University of Ulster Magee. “The scheme has identified and rewarded excellence and serves to further develop the employability skills we have inculcated in our students. The scholarship has not only provided financial support but it has also provided experience of working in a professional environment which will further develop and enhance the students’ skills.”
The closing date for the 2009/2010 Asidua Scholarship Programme for both local university students is Friday 30th September at 5:00pm. Further information and application packs for can be obtained from the both universities or online at www.asidua.com/portal/careers/our-scholarships
