<p>*Martin Broughton served as Deputy President of the CBI, succeeding Sir John Sunderland as President in January 2007. He became chairman of British Airways in July 2004, having joined the board of BA in 2000 as a non-executive director and been appointed deputy chairman in October 2003. He was formerly chairman of British American Tobacco plc (BAT), having previously been group chief executive and deputy chairman since 1993. He joined BAT as a travelling auditor in 1971 and held a variety of financial positions before becoming finance adviser for Asia. He moved to the group&rsquo;s Brazilian subsidiary, Souza Cruz, in 1980, becoming finance director. Martin is a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists and serves on the International Advisory Board of the British American Business Council. He is also chairman of the British Horseracing Board. Martin is married with a son and a daughter and enjoys golf, football, horse-racing and the theatre.

<p>Delegates are drawn from the membership of Socitm, the professional association representing senior managers in public sector ICT, particularly in local authorities and other locally delivered public service like the police, fire &amp; rescue services, housing associations and larger voluntary sector organisations. Conference attendees are likely to be directors or heads of ICT and/or senior ICT managers. Non-members are also welcome. Elected members and heads of corporate functions like e-Government, transformation, corporate resources and finance may also attend. This is not a public event, so only delegates to the conference attend the exhibition.</p>

With over 1900 members from 550 different organisations including 98% of all UK local authorities, Socitm provides a widely respected forum for the promotion, use and development of ICT best practice. It also plays a leading role in the implementation of local e-government in the UK. The Society is a significant provider of advice and guidance on ICT and e-government to local authorities. Socitm offers a growing range of services including publications, conferences, events, training, research and consultancy.</p>
